West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) recruits various posts through Miscellaneous Service Recruitment. The commission has just published official advertisement of Miscellaneous Service Recruitment 2018. Here we are going to share scheme and syllabus of Miscellaneous Service Exam.


Scheme of WBPSC Miscellaneous Service Examination  

The exam will be in three successive stages -

  • Preliminary Exam
  • Main Exam
  • Interview/ Personality Test

The preliminary exam will be objective type and main exam will be conventional type. 

Preliminary Exam : There are total 100 objective questions containing 2 marks each. 

1. General Studies - 75 question (150 marks)

2. Arithmetic -  25 questions (50 marks)
One and half hours are allotted for prelim exam. It is a screening test. Candidates who qualify in this exam will be shortlisted for main exam.


Main Exam : It consists of conventional type questions. Three will be three subjects in this exam-

1. Paper I - English. 150 marks. 1 hour 30 minutes
2. Paper II - Bengali/ Urdu/ Nepali/ Santali. 150 marks. 1 hour 30 minutes
3. Paper III - General Studies & Arithmetic . 100 marks for GS and 50 marks for Arithmetic. 2 hour 30 minutes

Interview/ Personality Test : Candidates who qualify in main exam will be called for interview. The interview contains 100 marks.


Syllabus of WBPSC Miscellaneous Service Exam

1. General Studies (for Prelim & Main Exam) : This part contains general knowledge of different spheres.

2. Arithmetic (for Prelim & Main exam) : Question will be set on the basis of Madhyamik / 10th standard level.

3. English (Paper-I) : 

a) Drafting of a report from points or materials supplied ;
b) Translation from Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali, as the case may be, to
English ;
c) Condensing of a prose passage (Summary/Precis) ;
d) Correct use of words, correction of sentences, use of common phrases, synonyms
and antonyms etc.

4. Bengali/ Urdu/ Nepali/ Santali (Paper-II) :

a) Drafting of a report from points or materials supplied ;
b) Translation from English to Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali, as the case may be ;
c) Condensing of a prose passage ;
d) Grammar.

Questions for Paper-I and Paper-II will be set on the basis of Higher Secondary / 10+2 level.
